Abu Huzeifa était un commandant militaire du groupe État islamique au Sahel, dans la zone des trois frontières Mali-Niger-Burkina. Son principal fait d’armes ? Celui d’avoir pris part à l’attaque de Tongo Tongo, en 2017, au Niger, au cours de laquelle quatre soldats américains des forces spéciales et quatre soldats nigériens avaient été tués. Sur l’une des rares photos de lui en circulation, il pose d’ailleurs avec une arme volée aux soldats américains lors de cette attaque. Les États-Unis avaient ensuite mis sa tête à prix, offrant jusqu’à 5 millions de dollars pour toute information permettant de le localiser.
l’armée malienne a annoncé avoir neutralisé un important chef terroriste dans la zone des trois frontières ce dimanche 28 avril.
Il s’appelle Abou Houzeifa dit Hugo, selon l’État major des armées. De nationalité étrangère, il a été neutralisé au cours d’une opération de grande envergure dans la zone du Liptako, secteur d’Indélimane. Le communiqué du chef d’État major indique que l’identification et les indices recueillis confirment la mort ce terroriste « auteur de plusieurs exactions contre les civils, les forces armées des pays de l’Alliance des Etats du Sahel et des forces étrangères ». Il avait été l’auteur de l’attaque meurtrière contre les forces armées américaines à Tongo Tongo au Niger en 2017. Sa tête avait d’ailleurs été mise à prix à trois milliards quatre cent millions de FCFA par le département d’État américain, précise l’Etat major.
